“Until it is resolved, EWS must remain accessible for Exchange Online backups to continue.”
How to set the required permissions following the August 2026 infrastructure upgrade for M365 Backup powered by Veeam (Sherweb), read 2026-10-25.
What to do. Exchange Online backup still needs EWS because Graph lacks delta sync. Keep EWS enabled on every protected tenant with the Veeam backup app IDs on the EWS allow list, and grant the new Graph permissions or backup jobs fail.

Application IDs
This site lists no fixed application ID for Sherweb. Look up an ID from your EWS usage report on the home page, or find the name behind it in Entra, under Enterprise applications.
Every app in your tenant
The tenant plan reads your EWS usage report in your browser and matches each app against these statuses and your current allow list. All vendor statuses.
